I’m Dr. Benjamin Caplan, a board-certified Family Medicine physician, healthtech founder, and clinical software builder. I work at the intersection of direct patient care, clinical decision support, and healthcare innovation, and I welcome patients, clinicians, founders, policymakers, and researchers to explore my work.

Over the last 20 years, I’ve provided evidence-based cannabis therapy to more than 350,000 patients. My clinical work spans adult, pediatric, and especially older adult care, where cannabis often becomes a safer, more empowering alternative to polypharmacy and overmedicalization.

As a Clinical Investigator and systems builder, I’ve led clinical trials, engineered data collection architectures, and contributed to research on therapeutic outcomes across chronic pain, sleep disorders, neurological conditions, anxiety, and geriatric polypharmacy.

Author, Educator, Policy Advisor

I’m the author of The Doctor-Approved Cannabis Handbook (Penguin Random House / BenBella Books), an internationally recognized clinical guide to safe, evidence-informed cannabis therapy. My clinical perspectives have appeared in The New England Journal of Medicine, and I have served as an Invited Guest Lecturer at Harvard Business School, where I delivered the school’s first lectures on cannabis medicine to matriculated students and helped launch the inaugural Cannabis Business Conference.

I speak regularly with academic audiences, legal professionals, and health policymakers to bring clinical clarity to healthcare reform, modernize patient access across Medicare populations, and educate clinicians on the physiological role of the endocannabinoid system.

Most healthcare software is designed at a distance from actual clinical practice—passing through layers of non-clinical product teams and specifications where essential nuances of patient care are frequently compromised. As a practicing physician who builds software directly, I take a clinician-first approach to technical systems:

Venture Experience – I helped lead MedEval Corp to the first international exit for a cannabis guidance platform, and co-founded Solo Sciences, a product authentication company acquired by Akerna, Inc.
