I’m Dr. Benjamin Caplan, a board-certified Family Medicine physician with a passionate focus on cannabis as medicine. Whether you’re a patient, healthcare provider, policymaker, researcher, or simply curious, I welcome you to explore my work, my mission, and the rapidly evolving world of cannabinoid-based care.

Over the last 20 years, I’ve provided evidence-based cannabis therapy to more than 300,000 patients—more than any other physician globally. My clinical work spans adult, pediatric, and especially older adult care, where cannabis often becomes a safer, more empowering alternative to polypharmacy and overmedicalization.

As a Research Investigator, I’ve led and supported multiple clinical trials, scaled data collection platforms, and contributed to research on cannabis’s role in treating pain, insomnia, anxiety, cancer, neurologic disease, and age-related conditions.

Author, Educator, Policy Advisor

I’m the author of The Doctor-Approved Cannabis Handbook (Ben Bella w/ Penguin Random House), one of the most comprehensive clinical guides to safe and effective cannabis use. My work has appeared in The New England Journal of Medicine, and I’ve lectured at Harvard Business School, where I delivered the school’s first-ever lectures on cannabis medicine to matriculated students and helped launch the inaugural Cannabis Business Conference.

I lecture as far and widely as possible, and I regularly collaborate with legal teams, public health leaders and policymakers to bring clarity and practical solutions to support modernizing cannabis access—especially for Medicare recipients—and to improve clinical integration of the endocannabinoid system, a crucial yet often overlooked part of human physiology.

Digital Innovation & AI Education

To increase access to science-based cannabis education, I built the CED Library—the largest free repository of cannabis research publications—and trained the most powerful free AI-powered cannabis librarian, capable of helping anyone understand the evidence, no scientific background required.

Earlier in my career, I helped lead MedEval Corp to the first international exit for a cannabis guidance platform, and later co-founded Solo Sciences*, a product authentication company acquired by Akerna, Inc.

My Clinical Blog – Where I Write, Share, and Learn

While I publish and speak widely, the CED Clinic blog is where I focus most of my time writing, teaching, and learning from the patients I serve. There, I:

Host interviews and video podcasts with patients on the front lines of this new (ancient) form of care
